Steenberg, founded in 1682 by Catharina Ras as the very first farm in the Cape’s Constantia valley, is one of South Africa’s oldest wine estates. The 1682 range is the estate’s premium Méthode Cap Classique offering — South Africa’s answer to traditional-method Champagne, made in exactly the same way using the second-fermentation-in-bottle technique pioneered in Reims.
This Pinot Noir Rosé Cap Classique is 100% Pinot Noir from cool-climate Constantia vineyards, whole-bunch pressed at very low sugar levels (18.5-19°B) to preserve acidity and aromatic delicacy. Bottle-fermented and aged on its lees for a minimum of 15 months before disgorgement. Pale salmon-pink, fine and persistent mousse, and a dry (brut) finish.
Elegant, fresh and food-friendly — wild strawberry, raspberry jelly and red apple skin on the nose, with a hint of toasted brioche from lees ageing. The palate is taut and chalky, with a creamy lift and a long, dry, mineral finish. Excellent as an aperitif, or with shellfish, smoked salmon, or anything off the grill.
