Herència Altés La Serra Blanc 2021
A classy, textured organic Spanish white produced from garnacha blanca in Terra Alta, a small region not far from Barcelona, made by Nuria Altes, who comes from a long line of winemakers in the region. The wine spends eight months in a combination of large Austrian oak vats and amphora, with five months of battonage, which adds to the creamy, waxy texture. Slightly oxidative in style, with dried apricots, lemon peel, and nutty freshness with plenty of concentration, balanced acidity and length. A very smart and elegant wine.

On the nose, this wine shows great citrus character with ripe orange and winter melon notes, against lightly toasted brioche. Tangerine fruit and citrus blossom fragrances are apparent, with hints of vanilla pod and a slight salinity. These characteristics follow through onto the palate. The grapes were fermented with selected yeasts, 97% in stainless steel tanks, while 3% was barrel-fermented imparting delicate complexity. The wine spent eight months on its fine lees in tank, prior to release.
2023 Sauvignon Blanc Noordhoek comes from estate fruit matured in stainless steel, aged on the lees for ten months. There’s green apples, citrus peel and kiwi fruit on the nose, and just a little pyrazines here. The palate certainly has more vigor and tension than the regular Sauvignon Blanc.
